Innovations in Dementia Care Symposium at Bethany Calgary

On March 14, Bethany Calgary hosted an Innovations In Dementia Care Symposium put on by the Alberta Association of Gerontology. As a sponsor and partner in this event, many stakeholders and industry professionals came to Bethany Calgary for the event to learn more about dementia care and the different ways of providing care services to those with dementia.

150 attendees came to Bethany for the day, and the event featured keynote speaker Eloy van Hal, one of the developers of De Hogeweyk, a well-known dementia care centre in the Netherlands. Eloy shared many of his innovative concepts that he uses for his residents of the dementia village in the Netherlands and offered ideas on how to best care for those suffering with the late stages of dementia.

Community partners including Alberta Health, the Alzheimer Society of Alberta and North West Territories, the University of Alberta, the Calgary Alzheimer Society, the Brenda Strafford Foundation and the University of Calgary had representatives speaking on a variety of topics. By participating in this event, Bethany was able to strengthen community partnerships, learn about innovative dementia programs around the world and help
create caring communities.
