Service Success Stories from Bethany Staff

A couple years ago, myself and the volunteer coordinator were determined to start a men’s woodworking group. We managed to have all the supplies donated to us and I facilitate it once a week. We adapt the individual projects to the ability level of the resident. The gentlemen enjoy socializing together and reminiscing about the woodworking they personally did throughout their lives. They share memories and often there is
much joking and laughing.

Residents from all house units are encouraged to participate and welcome to join. The residents are very appreciative of what I do for them in the group, and I always remind them and thank them for teaching me about woodworking. It is an opportunity for me to see them feeling confident and happy and I get to learn more about them at the same time. Many of the men offered their projects to be sold at our annual craft market and all the money raised went back to fund outings for our low income residents!
