April 23 – 29 is National Volunteer Week. Volunteers play an important role at Bethany, helping our residents, families and employees every day. From April 1, 2016 until March 31, 2017, Bethany had 899 active volunteers contributing 57,941.5 volunteer hours! We are very thankful to have such dedicated volunteers who spend their free time at Bethany donating their talents to help us create caring communities. During National Volunteer Week, be sure to thank our Bethany volunteers for all that they do!
Volunteering at Bethany as an employee can also be beneficial for you. Volunteering helps create strong relationships and can give you a sense of purpose. Volunteering also contributes to healthy aging, impacting your social, emotional and physical well-being. Older adults who volunteer have been seen to have less stress related illness, higher self esteem and less feelings of isolation.
Popular volunteer roles at Bethany include friendly visitor, mealtime companion, activities assistant, occupational/physio therapy volunteer assistant and musicians/entertainers. If any of those roles appeal to you, please see the volunteer coordinator at your site to join as a volunteer. This month we encourage you to get involved with Bethany, or another organization you are passionate about and spend some time helping out in the community.
