It takes a team to achieve the dream! Our shared mission at Bethany Care Society is to create caring communities for our residents, tenants, families, volunteers, and employees. For example, our innovative approaches to programming using robot technology have fostered connections between residents and their communities. Ideas like these were not a single person’s work, but the work of a Bethany team. Which winning team this year deserves recognition for their collaborative work and creative thinking?

    Only mine

I told myself so many times

To get ready to let you go

But as the time was coming near

I still didn’t want to know

How life would be without you

Because you always have been there

For better or worse, we promised

To be together forever, and share

In all of our joys and sorrows,

But now ‘forever’ I must redefine

As all those joys are in the past

And this sorrow is only mine

    -Catherine (Cathy) Prentice

    The Unseen

    The room of flickering light

    The mirror of uncanny sight

    Shrouded me in chilling night

    In shock and in fright

    Wreath scented the eerie air

    Candle smokes made me scare

The freezing wind, embraced my skin

My hair stood like a pricking pin

Then, a thin voice echoes my name

    Whispering, murmuring it came

    Somewhere, not far but near

    Michael, Michael I am here

My ears grasp the ghostly sound

My scary eyes glom and look around

No one I see behind the door

Not even shadows on the floor

Then humid air exhaled deeply cold

The creepy voice, I felt appalled

    Michael, Michael it called again

A waning cry, I froze and listen

Fearlessly, I spoke to the shallow voice

I have to I have no choice

Come to my dream I utter

    Speak to me I mutter

In dreams the voice came to me

A white lady, a weeping lady

    Faceless she cried

    Her tears terrified

In her stammering tone, she sighed to me

The list I wrote has forgotten me?

Her vented words seem a mystery

But I sense, remembrance and prayers

    she asked from me

In memoir, I pray for thee

    Rest in Peace forever be

  • Alberta Heritage Day 2022

August 1, 2022 is Alberta Heritage Day!

Heritage Day was first observed in 1974 to emphasize the province’s abundance of multiculturalism. At Bethany Care Society, we are committed to embracing diversity and strengthening bonds between our communities.

We hope you take the time to celebrate our communities’ diverse cultures. Some great ways to appreciate heritage: visiting your local museum, attending a cultural event, taking a road trip, or learning about your family history.

Have a safe and happy Heritage Day!

  • Get into the spirit and nominate your Bethany Hero for Bethany Service Excellence Awards 2022

While staff at Bethany Calgary got into the Stampede spirit, they’ve also nominated their Bethany Hero! The nomination deadline for the Bethany Service Excellence Awards 2022 is August 15, so don’t wait to nominate!

    Shhh…

    Slowly… Quietly…Softly

    (Summer camp in Kananaskis)

    Shhh…Go, settle down hectic mind,

Under the spec of clouds go unwind.

And leave behind what worries you

Rather, excite your thoughts to anything new

    Slowly…quietly…softly

Shhh… Go, captivate the gentle river rush

Pause for a while with easing hush

And float on rippling water flow

Follow the tide and be mellow

    Slowly…quietly…softly

Shhh…Go, hike the mountains with pace

Trek the rugged slopes with grace

And picture the scenes of what you see

For memories, soon it will be

    Slowly…quietly…softly

Shhh…Go, lay beneath the bluish sky

‘Til the glaring sunlight waves bye, bye,

And bare your mind of what happened yesterday

Instead, reflect of what has happened in you today

    Slowly…quietly…softly

    Shhh…Go, breathe the soothing air

Feel the breeze while it’s still there

And let the gale blow from snowy peaks

Moisten your lips and your rosy cheeks

    Slowly…quietly…softly

Shhh…the whistling wind has lured me to rest

    Underneath, the scented green forest

And pondered the day that had passed

A moment framed I know will last

    Slowly…quietly…softly

Shhh…as my day shifted so smoothly

    Unnoticed, the sun drifted silently

And thank you prayers were said peacefully

To God who loves us so dearly

    Slowly…quietly…softly
