    Congratulations to this year’s finalists!

The Bethany Service Excellence Awards celebrate our employees’ commitment to everyday excellence in their roles and actions. Employees in eight categories are recognized for their valuable contributions that go above and beyond for our residents and tenants. They demonstrate Bethany’s values of we care, we show respect, we are responsible and we embrace diversity.

These employees take our person-centred work to new heights. The finalists have been selected and notified and will be celebrated at the Bethany Service Excellence Awards 2022 ceremony on November 17, 2022.

Spiritual Care Week is October 16-22. Each site will be celebrating the “Blessing of Hands” at some time during this week to recognize the commitment and services of employees at Bethany. This symbolic practice honours the work of our hands and how we use them to bless others at Bethany. Spiritual Care is an integral part of Bethany’s philosophy of caring for the whole person – mind, body and spirit. It takes a team to achieve the dream! Our shared mission at Bethany Care Society is to create caring communities for our residents, tenants, families, volunteers, and employees. For example, our innovative approaches to programming using robot technology have fostered connections between residents and their communities. Ideas like these were not a single person’s work, but the work of a Bethany team. Which winning team this year deserves recognition for their collaborative work and creative thinking?

  • October Poetry Corner

Thank you to Catherine Prentice and Michael Quiano for this month’s poetry submissions. All Bethany employees, and in collaboration with Aramark employees, are welcome to submit their poetry to marketing.communication@bethanyseniors.com  for next month’s feature.

    Only mine

I told myself so many times

To get ready to let you go

But as the time was coming near

I still didn’t want to know

How life would be without you

Because you always have been there

For better or worse, we promised

To be together forever, and share

In all of our joys and sorrows,

But now ‘forever’ I must redefine

As all those joys are in the past

And this sorrow is only mine

    -Catherine (Cathy) Prentice

    The Unseen

    The room of flickering light

    The mirror of uncanny sight

    Shrouded me in chilling night

    In shock and in fright

    Wreath scented the eerie air

    Candle smokes made me scare

The freezing wind, embraced my skin

My hair stood like a pricking pin

Then, a thin voice echoes my name

    Whispering, murmuring it came

    Somewhere, not far but near

    Michael, Michael I am here

My ears grasp the ghostly sound

My scary eyes glom and look around

No one I see behind the door

Not even shadows on the floor

Then humid air exhaled deeply cold

The creepy voice, I felt appalled

    Michael, Michael it called again

A waning cry, I froze and listen

Fearlessly, I spoke to the shallow voice

I have to I have no choice

Come to my dream I utter

    Speak to me I mutter

In dreams the voice came to me

A white lady, a weeping lady

    Faceless she cried

    Her tears terrified

In her stammering tone, she sighed to me

The list I wrote has forgotten me?

Her vented words seem a mystery

But I sense, remembrance and prayers

    she asked from me

In memoir, I pray for thee

    Rest in Peace forever be

    -Michael Angelo B. Quiano

  • Alberta Heritage Day 2022

August 1, 2022 is Alberta Heritage Day!

Heritage Day was first observed in 1974 to emphasize the province’s abundance of multiculturalism. At Bethany Care Society, we are committed to embracing diversity and strengthening bonds between our communities.

We hope you take the time to celebrate our communities’ diverse cultures. Some great ways to appreciate heritage: visiting your local museum, attending a cultural event, taking a road trip, or learning about your family history.

Have a safe and happy Heritage Day!
